Multi Agency School Support Team
he Multi Agency School Support Team (MASST) is an early intervention, school-based program that supports children aged five to 12, who are exhibiting behavior which puts them at risk for negative, possibly criminal patterns of behaviour or victimization into teen years.
The program is based on two concepts:
- Early, individualized assessment of risk factors
- Access to social support services in school and community
Children and their families work closely with teams of police officers, registered social workers, and Recovery Alberta, often for extended periods of time, to achieve the following long range goals:
- Children are less likely to be involved in negative, even criminal patterns of behaviour or victimization
- Greater collaboration among police, schools, and other agencies in addressing crime prevention and child/family resilience
- MASST-involved children and families have an improved perception around the role of police, social workers and other helpful professionals
