As a long time Calgarian, Shawn Cornett has supported the community through volunteer work, raised a family and had a full career in oil and gas. After time in operations, and then as VP Talent Management at Nexen, she provided support across the global organization (Canada, US, UK and Yemen). Leaving her corporate career allowed Shawn the opportunity to consult to small and medium sized organizations in the areas of culture change, organization design and effectiveness, performance and board governance.
The skills and experience gained in the corporate world helping create successful and healthy workplaces are brought forward into her board and governance work. Currently, Shawn serves on the board of BGC (formerly Boys and Girls Clubs) Canada after 12 years chairing the Calgary organization. She is also on the board of CAWST, (Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology), serves with the United Way of Calgary in several roles, and is a past member of the Athabasca University board of governors. She was appointed to the Calgary Police Commission in November 2019, was Chair Governance and Personnel Committee and now serves as Commission Chair.
Shawn has a MSC in Environmental Studies, a PhD in Human and Organization Development and the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
