Bonita is Vice President Corporate Legal and Chief Compliance Officer with Suncor Energy Inc. Bonita has more than two decades of experience as a legal executive in global, publicly traded energy companies. She is a leader in the areas of corporate governance, legal risk management, business ethics, international business, intellectual property and anti-corruption.
Bonita holds a B.A. (Hons) in Economics from Mount Allison University and an LL.B from Dalhousie University. She is a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Director’s Director Education Program. She was appointed Queen’s Counsel for Alberta in 2014.
Bonita is active in supporting the communities in which she lives and works. She has been a member of the Calgary Police Youth Foundation Board of Directors since 2019 and Chair since May 2022. Bonita was Chair of the Calgary Police Commission from 2019 to 2021, and a member of the Commission from 2018 to 2019. She has contributed her time, energy and expertise to numerous community and professional organizations for many years. She is a strong advocate of inclusion and diversity, and frequently mentors young diverse professionals as well as advocating for and contributing to corporate inclusion and diversity programs.
